As you may or may not have noticed, I didn’t update yesterday. Actually all week I’ve been doing this wonderful thing of updating every other day. I’m sorry, the writing that I want to give you all doesn’t come to me every day, and sometimes I’m just not okay with giving you all a random ass summation of my life, which tends to be completely uninteresting and undramatic.
But, I’m going away this weekend, and I don’t want to leave you guys with zilch the whole time. And my writing mojo still hasn’t returned to me today, so random is what you’re gonna get.
I am very sorry.
- I received 2 emails yesterday thanking me for my support, and for being a good (bloggie) friend. These made me feel like I was floating on air. I love you guys. There seriously isn’t one of you that I wouldn’t stand right by your side and hold your hand while you’re going through something awful.
- I’ve delved head first into learning sign language. Except for yesterday, I’d spent the majority of each day this week learning it. I am now? Up to 3rd grade level sentences. “I HUNGRY.” “I WANT FOOD” “My FAVORITE FOOD, CHEESE.”(ASL doesn’t have ‘be’ verbs, which is why they’re missing) (I don’t yet know the word for pasta, so I can’t say my favorite food is mac and cheese.)Sometimes when I start a sentence (because I practice all the time to myself. It feels like talking to yourself, without actually talking. I love it.
) ANYWAY, When I start a sentence, and realize halfway through that I can’t finish it because I don’t know the words, I get more motivated to continue, but it still feels like such a victory to just be able to get halfway through. It’s truly a great experience, and I’m loving every second.
I think this partially explains why I’ve been so MIA this week. I spend most of my time either learning more sign language or eating/sleeping.
I forgot how much fun it was to learn. But there’s still SO MUCH MORE to learn. (I can’t wait!) - I wish I could get my mojo started, because I want to finish my next installment of ‘Ode to my favorite people’.
- I wish the writer’s strike would be over already. I’m missing Pre-Writer’s Strike Daily Show, and all the shows that are now on “pause” because they won’t write any more. I do think I’m on the side of the writers though, even though I don’t think they’ll get what they want from this whole thing, I do think that it’s the principle of the matter.
BUT I MISS MY SHOWS. - We’re going to see B’s dad and his wife this weekend. I’m sorta-kinda looking forward to it. What I’m not looking forward to? The treacherous weather that’s forecasted on the way there, and the 6 hours that it’s going to take.
Have I ever mentioned how much I hate driving for that long at once?
Kay, just makin’ sure. - MY CAT. Ahhh, yes. The DRIVE ME CRAZINESS that is my cat.A month or so ago, I found this looong shoe string in our cat’s cupboard, and decided that it would make a good play thing for him. Since he often gets board with things that he’s SUPPOSED to play with.I’ve decided this was the worst thing I could have ever done in my entire life.
He now wants to play with that stupid thing 24/7. And please don’t assume I’m exaggerating there. I could wake him up, he’d want to play with it. I could interrupt his dinner, he’d want to play with it. I could start playing with him in the middle of his POOPING, and he’d still want to play with it. The stupid string is like his lover. And he is VERY obsessed with it. He can’t get enough.
If you haven’t played with him with it for too long than can be considered acceptable for him? He meows like the world is coming to an end.
He woke me up last week, TWICE, at 7:30 in the morning. Now, bear in mind that I normally go to sleep around 2-3am. So that doesn’t allow much sleep for me, and I think I’m going to have to sacrifice him. I know, seems harsh, I realize. BUT I’M GOING CRAZY, and once I’m crazy I cannot be held responsible for my own actions. - I’m pretty sure when I started this entry, I had more things I was going to write about, and at this point it makes my entry seem not worth it, but oh well. What’s done is done.I’ll try and get my mojo restarted by Sunday or Monday, and be back in full force.
Or you know, you might get another one of these.Scary, isn’t it? (I almost said a’int. Ahh, southern heritage showing through yet again.)Adios. Have a good weekend.
Here’s a present, to make suffering through this post all worth it:

hahaha raar, i love it. amazing how cats are always so contrary isnt it? yet they end up being worth it. good hodgepodge of a post – i like, i like. hope you have a great weekend!
I like randomness posts – probably becuase sometimes I can’t seem to concentrate for long and I end up spacing out.
Have a good trip!
Raaaar! I love it! Hope you have a fantastic weekend!
I need to get my mojo back as well!
My fave is signing “cookies” and “milk” If you haven’t learned the sign for milk yet, look it up immediately. It makes me crack up every time!
Thank you guys, I hope your weekends rock too.
LS-I know! Dude, the first time I signed milk, I was like, “This feels naughty.” I felt that same way with ‘Orange’ (it’s like the same thing, except next to your mouth) I guess the deaf community doesn’t have a dirty mind, like some of us!
It’s great that you’re so excited for learning a new language. That’s the best motivation there is to keep at it. I wish I felt that way about German!
one of my cats, holly, gets over obsessed with “toys” too. and the same ones. but they’re usually not cat toys. they’re usually things like… oh i don’t know. my favorite pair of earrings. or a tampon (in its wrapper of course!).
Love the Raar. Have a great weekend!
i think it’s so fantastic that you’re learning a new language. good luck with it!!
have a great weekend. =)
hahaha Raaaaar! love it…
I like the randomness kindda like the curiosity cabinet…
Have a wonderful weekend!
I’m so proud of you for going out and making this new language your own! You’re a better deaf person than I am!
Any idea where I can get my hands on newborn kittens…?
So cute… I think I want to raise one myself…
Scope.
Hee hee, what a vicious little monster!!
I know I get annoyed when I can’t keep up a writing schedule sometimes. I’ll even stop myself from writing too often. However, it should really be about inspiration, not a schedule, so don’t worry about it. We’ll be here when there’s words, essentially!
Have a great weekend!
I’ve also lost my writing mojo. I can barely write complete sentences!
That is REALLY cool that you’re learning sign language. What an awesome, productive way to spend your free time. My aunt is a translator for a university football team, travels with them, etc. Maybe this new hobby could turn into a really interesting career?!
hehehe the story about your cat had me laughing so hard. My cat (thats no longer really mine) used to do that too. At alllll hours of the night.
Thats so awesome about your learning sign language!
Hey lady! Have a great weekend. As for the sign language- good for you! I planned on teaching myself, got as far as learning the alphabet and a few verbs (sit, stand, lay down) and then gave up. I wish I would have stuck with it. I can’t wait to hear more about your progress.
Like everyone else has said, its so great that you’re learning a new language. And you’re so cute the way you’re so excited by it! I think that’s the best thing about learning, that rush we get!
Have a great weekend, my dear!
That is awesome that you’re learning sign language! And mac n’ cheese? Kinda sounds AMAZING right now. Hope your weekend went well!
